We have a new website!

If you clicked the blog link from our new website you, obviously, already know about the new site. But…if you got here some other way, you MUST CHECK OUT THE NEW 1Ndoto WEBSITE! Sorry for all the yelling but I’m really excited. It’s been in the works for quite a while and I think it turned out great (thanks Mark and Sonya!)

In other news, Shay just got back from a month in Tanzania. I’m envious that she got to spend time with the HOL kids. She even got to see them all in one place as the Valley View kids were doing some exam work at the QTC.

Shay also got to be involved in an exciting new project for the children. Hard Life Artists — a group of former street children who now teach art to OVC in local schools — is working with the children of the QTC. They come each week and teach painting classes. I’ll try to get some photos posted but I’m thrilled for the children to get to take a little break from life once in a while. As OVC, most of the HOL kids are expected to work at home farming, cleaning, cooking and caring for younger siblings. Then there’s the hours each day spent at school and studying. There really isn’t much down time for these kids. Getting to spend time expressing themselves through art is a treat and I’m so grateful to the Hard Life Artists who do this for free. Check them out on Facebook to learn more about these wonderful artists.

And, finally some news about fundraising. We have a date set for our California event. We’ll be hosting a very fun party and auction in the South Bay (we’re still looking at locations) on Friday, October 12th. I’ll keep you posted but mark your calendar if you’d like to be part of it.

That’s it for now. I hope to check back in with you soon with some updates on the children and what they’re up to. Bunga has promised me an update. And after Shay adjusts to being back home, I’m sure she’ll have some news to share.

I really need to get some blog training because my links aren’t working. I’ll get better I promise. But, in the meanwhile, go to http://www.onendoto.org to see our site. Look up the Hard Life Artists page on Facebook. I’ll try to get the links embedded later today.
